Your Own Cloak: When Others’ Gaze Feels Heavy

A symbolic protection ritual with a cotton shawl to collect your energy, write your own limits and take care of your space in a house shared with cats.

Duration 12 minutes

·

Cat resting away from a cotton shawl and a notebook under night light.

Name a personal limit in writing when someone else's opinion takes up too much space.

Materials

  • A clean cotton shawl1
  • One A5 sheet1
  • A pencil1

Step by step

  1. Sit in a stable place that keeps the cat's usual routes free.
  2. Spread the shawl over your shoulders only.
  3. Write on the sheet a phrase that names the limit you want to maintain.
  4. Read the sentence once and see what specific decision accompanies it.
  5. Fold the sheet and remove the shawl from your shoulders.
  6. Put the shawl, the sheet and the pencil in a closed drawer.

The meaning of practice

The shawl represents a personal limit and focuses attention on one's own decision; it is an image for reflection, not a protection or a way to change other people's behavior.
